Odysseus 2.0.0 release notes

Version 2.0.0 · Released June 1, 2026

First release of Odysseus, the Hector network discovery agent. Installed on one Windows computer, it scans the IP address ranges you define in Hector, identifies the devices it finds and sends them to your Hector inventory.

New

  • Network discovery: scans every address in the IP ranges set in Hector’s Odysseus integration (single addresses, ranges or CIDR subnets) and finds devices that answer ping or one of 20 common TCP ports, so devices that block ping are found too.
  • Device identification: collects the host name, NetBIOS name, MAC address, manufacturer, model, serial number, operating system, firmware, location, contact and uptime, using SNMP, UPnP, Bonjour (mDNS), Windows file sharing (SMB) and the device’s own web page.
  • Device types: each device is classified (printer, switch, router, firewall, access point, IP camera, VoIP phone, NAS, Windows, Linux or Apple device, and more), which Hector can use to accept or reject devices.
  • Scheduled discovery: discoveries run automatically from the start time and interval set in Hector. The main window shows a countdown to the next discovery, and you can start, pause, resume or cancel one at any time.
  • Sync with Hector: results are sent to Hector after each discovery. Hector applies the integration’s business rules (accepted device types, blocking incomplete devices) and keeps a history of each discovery in the integration’s Results section.
  • Error reporting: in Simple mode Hector receives the number of errors; in Advanced mode it also receives their details.
  • Discovered Devices window: lists every device found, with a search box and a panel showing all of the selected device’s properties.
  • IP Address Ranges window: shows the ranges the agent received from Hector.
  • Pairing: connect the agent to your Hector instance with the installation key shown in the integration settings. Refresh configuration pulls changes from Hector right away, and the agent can be reset and paired again from the settings.
  • Runs in the background: notification area (system tray) icon, starts with Windows, automatic updates, English and French interface.

For installation and configuration steps, see the integration guide with Odysseus.
