Version 2.0.1 · Released June 21, 2026
This release focuses on printers: Odysseus now reports a real manufacturer and model for most printers, so they no longer end up under a blank model in Hector.
Improved
- Printer identification: Odysseus now reads the manufacturer, model and serial number that printers publish for network printing (IPP, AirPrint and Bonjour printing services).
- Consistent manufacturer names: different spellings of the same manufacturer are combined (for example Hewlett-Packard, HP Inc. and hp all become HP), so one printer model no longer creates several models in Hector.
- Models from web pages: the model is taken from the device’s web page only when it looks like a real model. Generic page titles such as “Home” or “Web Image Monitor” are ignored, and product lines (LaserJet, bizhub, ECOSYS, WorkCentre, imageRUNNER and others) identify the manufacturer.
- Models from SNMP: the model name now comes before the name an administrator gave the printer, and generic values such as “Chassis” or a copy of the host name are ignored.
Fixed
- Wrong manufacturer from the MAC address: some devices were given the wrong manufacturer (for example, a Brother printer reported as Cisco).
- Operating system reported as manufacturer: names such as Windows or Linux are no longer used as the manufacturer.
- iPhones reported as VoIP phones: Apple devices are now recognized before the phone rule is checked.
- Printers not recognized: printers that only expose their printing port (DeskJet, PIXMA, EcoTank, ENVY Photo and similar) are now classified as printers.
- False configuration error: every discovery reported an error about accessing the agent’s configuration even when nothing was wrong.
- Main window: the version number at the bottom of the window could be cut off.
